The Toronto Blue Jays have a good week

The Blue Jays went 4-2 last week as they outscored their opponents 41-23! They got good pitching and hit the ball really well and that’s a good combo to have going for you. The Jays are now 12-12 which is good for 2nd place in the American League East, 4 games behind the Boston Red Sox.

John McDonald is on fire for the Toronto Blue Jays so far this season

What in the world is going on with the light hitting John McDonald? In 13 games so far this season, McDonald is 15 for 32 (.469 avg, 1.110 OPS) with 4 runs scored and 2 RBIs. McDonald has never been much of a hitter in the majors over his career but he stepped up when the Jays really needed him to. With Troy Glaus out, McDonald stepped in and did a good job. We’ll see how he does when he returns to his bench role this weekend with Glaus back.

The Toronto Blue Jays place Gregg Zaun on the DL

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed Gregg Zaun on the 15 day disabled list with a broken thumb. He will miss 6-8 weeks. Zaun wasn’t hitting the ball well (.186 avg, .618 OPS) but he’s by far the best defensive catcher the Blue Jays have and he’s good with the pitching staff. Jason Phillips will get most of the starts behind the plate now. He has hit the ball well this season as he’s 7 for 20 (.350 avg, .759 OPS) with 1 run scored and 1 RBI. The Blue Jays have also recalled Sal Fasano from the minors. Fasano was really hitting the ball well in AAA as he was 13 for 41 (.317 avg, 1.047 OPS) with 8 runs scored, 5 homers and 5 RBIs. Fasano has never been that good of a hitter in the majors.

The Toronto Blue Jays need more from Gregg Zaun

The Blue Jays let Bengie Molina walk because they thought Gregg Zaun could handle the full-time job for them. He’s off to a rough start with the bat as he’s only hitting .190 with a .629 OPS in 19 games this season. He’s 11 for 58 with 5 runs scored, 1 homer and 8 RBIs this season. The Jays need him to hit better because the Jays lineup is very top heavy.

The Toronto Blue Jays week was a disaster

Blogged under NFL Blogs, Weekly Results, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Monday 23 April 2007 at 3:00 pm

The Blue Jays were horrible last week as they were 1-5. They were outscored 27-15 in those games. They were hurt by a sputtering offense and bullpen and that’s the recipe for disaster! They are now 8-10 and are in 4th place, 4.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the American League East.
