The Blue Jays raided the Reds by claiming lefty reliever Mike Gosling and shortstop Pedro Lopez off waivers. Gosling will have an outside shot to make the Blue Jays but Lopez will be a longer shot. Gosling pitched in 23 games last season for the Reds and he was 2-0 with a 4.91 ERA and a 2.12 WHIP. He pitched 33 innings last season and he allowed 42 hits, walked 28 batters and whiffed 32. Lopez only played in 14 games this season for the Reds and he was 8 for 45 (.178 avg, .435 OPS) with 1 run scored.

Roy Halladay is the undisputed ace of the Blue Jays and his career numbers bear that out. He has pitched in 247 games (222 starts) in his major league career and he is 111-55 with a 3.63 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. In this era of baseball Halladay has the rare ability to go the distance in games as he has completed 31 games (9 shutouts) in his career. One of Halladay’s biggest assets is that he throws strikes as he has only allowed 2.2 walks per 9 innings over his career. Look for Halladay to continue piling up his career stats for the Blue Jays as their #1 starter.
