The Blue Jays have acquired infielder Marco Scutaro from the A’s for minor league righties Graham Godfrey and Kristian Bell. Neither of the prospects that the Blue Jays traded has much of an upside. Scutaro will be really valuable as he can handle 2B, SS or 3B defensively. Scutaro played in 104 games last season with the A’s and he was 88 for 338 (.260 avg, .693 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 7 homers and 41 RBIs. Scutaro has now played in 551 games in his major league career and he is 427 for 1,650 (.259 avg, .704 OPS) with 211 runs scored, 31 homers and 174 RBIs.

The Blue Jays are loaded in the outfield and they got sick of waiting for Griffin to reach his potential so they cut the 28-year old lefty swinging outfielder. Griffin played in 6 games last season for the Blue Jays and he was 3 for 10 (.300 avg, 1.129 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 1 homer and 3 RBIs. Griffin played in 13 games for the Blue Jays in his career and he was 7 for 23 (.304 avg, 1.066 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 2 homers and 9 RBIs.

The Blue Jays have re-signed Matt Stairs to a 2-year, $3.5 million dollar contract. Despite the fact that Stairs is going to be 40 years old next season he deserved this kind of cash based on his performance from 2007. Stairs played in 125 games last season for the Blue Jays and he was 103 of 357 (.289 avg, .917 OPS) with 58 runs scored, 21 homers and 64 RBIs. Stairs has now played in 1,541 games in his major league career and he’s 1,228 for 4,600 (.267 avg, .847 OPS) with 691 runs scored, 241 homers and 815 RBIs. This was a good move by the Blue Jays.
