65-year old Cito Gaston took over during the year for the fired John Gibbons and he showed he still could do the job. Gaston led the Jays to a 51-37 record (58%) last season after taking over. Gaston has now managed 10 seasons in Toronto compiling a 753-687 record (52.3%) with a average division finish of 2.5. Gaston led the Blue Jays to back to back World Championships in 1992 and 1993. Don’t bet against Gaston making the team better than it looks on paper.

The Blue Jays have released righty pitcher Matt Bush. Bush threw one shutout inning this spring for the Blue Jays. The reason Bush was cut is because he violated the terms of his contract according to his off field behavior. Bush has a decent upside but the Blue Jays didn’t feel he was worth the headache.

The Blue Jays have released 39-year old lefty pitcher Ken Takashi. Takashi only pitched in 1 game this spring for the Blue Jays in which he was 0-0 with a 10.80 ERA and a 3.00 WHIP. Takashi wasn’t out of work too long as the Mets have signed him but don’t expect him to haunt the Blue Jays down the road.
