32-year old righty reliever Jason Frasor has done a good job as the closer of the Blue Jays. With B.J. Ryan getting released early this season and Scott Downs getting hurt, Frasor found himself in the closer’s role for the Jays and he has done a good job. Frasor has pitched in 61 games out of the pen for the Jays this season and he is 7-3 with 11 saves, a 2.50 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP. He has only allowed 43 hits in 57 2/3 innings this season while whiffing 56 batters showing what kind of stuff he still has. Frasor deserves the chance to close in Toronto unless they sign someone better.

J.P. Arencibia might get a shot with the Toronto Blue Jays next season

23-year old righty swinging catcher J.P. Arencibia was the #2 rated prospect in the Blue Jays’ minor league system coming into this season according to Baseball America. He played in 116 games in AAA-ball this season and he was 110 for 466 (.236 avg, .728 OPS) with 67 runs scored, 21 homers and 75 RBIs. He needs to improve his plate discipline to get to the majors as he only walked 26 times last season while whiffing 114 times. If the Blue Jays decide to let Rod Barajas walk after this season Arencibia could get a shot to win the starting job at catcher next spring.

What in the world was wrong with Vernon Wells this season of the Toronto Blue Jays?

The Blue Jays had given 30-year old righty swinging CF Vernon Wells a huge long term contract just a couple of years ago and he appeared to be going through the motions this season. Wells has played in 146 games for the Blue Jays this season and he is 153 for 579 (.264 avg, .722 OPS) with 80 runs scored, 14 homers, 62 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. He has now played in 1,224 games with the Blue Jays in his career and he is 1,357 for 4,829 (.281 avg, .801 OPS) with 706 runs scored, 191 homers, 721 RBIs and 84 stolen bases. The Blue Jays need Wells to play like he used to next season because his salary is going to eat up a lot of the cash the Jays can spend on payroll.

Joe Inglett got stiffed by the Toronto Blue Jays this season

31-year old lefty swinging utility man Joe Inglett got stiffed by the Blue Jays this season playing most of it in AAA. He has played in 35 games for the Jays this season and he is 25 for 89 (.281 avg, .695 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 6 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Inglett has now played in 210 games in his major league career and he is 187 for 639 (.293 avg, .745 OPS) with 82 runs scored, 5 homers, 68 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. Inglett deserves to play in the major leagues next season and the Blue Jays should treat him right. If they are going to send him to AAA to start next season they ought to do Inglett a favor and trade him.

The Toronto Blue Jays should consider bringing Rod Barajas back

Blogged under Front Page, General, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Tuesday 22 September 2009 at 11:04 am

34-year old catcher Rod Barajas has played just like the Blue Jays thought he would. He works well with pitchers and he has occasional power. Barajas played in 115 games for the Blue Jays this season and he was 92 for 392 (.235 avg, .682 OPS) with 40 runs scored, 18 homers and 66 RBIs. As long as the Blue Jays don’t get in a bidding war for Barajas they would be smart to bring him back next season.
