The Blue Jays have recently traded 31-year old righty swinging outfielder Chris Aguila to the Phillies for future considerations. Aguila played in 44 games in AAA-ball for the Blue Jays this year and he was 44 of 160 (.275 avg, .802 OPS) with 30 runs scored, 4 homers, 21 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Aguila is a .230 career hitter in the majors over 149 games so the Jays won’t miss him too much if at all.

The Toronto Blue Jays demote Jarrett Hoffpauir to AAA

The Blue Jays have demoted 27-year old righty swinging 3B Jarrett Hoffpauir to AAA. He played in 9 games for the Blue Jays this season and he was 6 of 28 (.214 avg, .517 OPS) with 1 run scored. The Blue Jays have recalled 24-year old lefty starting pitcher Marc Rzepczynski to replace Shaun Marcum (on the D.L.) in the starting rotation. He has pitched in 9 games (all starts) in AAA-ball this season and he was 4-3 with a 6.66 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP. Rzepczynski really looked good as a rookie last season for the Blue Jays in which he pitched in 11 games (all starts) and was 2-4 with a 3.67 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. The Blue Jays hope that they will be getting the 2009 version of Rzepczynski instead of the 2010 minor league version.

The Toronto Blue Jays release Jeremy Reed

29-year old lefty swinging outfielder Jeremy Reed has rejected an outright assignment to the minors thus becoming a free agent. Reed played in 14 games for the Blue Jays this season and he was 3 of 21 (.143 avg, .503 OPS) with 1 run scored, 1 homer, 3 RBIs and 1 stolen base. The Blue Jays needed Reed’s roster spot for 27-year old righty swinging 3B Edwin Encarnacion who has been recalled from AAA. Encarnacion played in 10 games in A+AAA-ball after his recent demotion and he was 15 of 42 (.357 avg, 1.128 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 4 homers and 14 RBIs. The Blue Jays hope that Encarnacion’s demotion will spark him to play better for them this time around. He played in 37 games for the Jays earlier this season and he was 24 of 120 (.200 avg, .765 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 9 homers and 22 RBIs. I look for him to be much better this time around for the Blue Jays.
