John McDonald is showing some muscle for the Toronto Blue Jays this year

35-year old righty swinging reserve infielder John McDonald has been producing pretty well with the bat this year. He has played in 44 games for the Blue Jays this year and he is 27 of 105 (.257 avg, .744 OPS) with 19 runs scored, 4 homers, 13 RBIs and 1 stolen base. McDonald has always been a outstanding defensive player but he never hit enough to stay in the starting lineup long. At least he’s swinging a good bat now as he has really helped the Blue Jays off the bench in 2010.

The Blue Jays have placed starting 3B Edwin Encarnacion on the 15-day disabled list with a left wrist sprain. Encarnacion has played in 80 games for the Jays this year and he is 68 of 276 (.246 avg, .756 OPS) with 36 runs scored, 13 homers and 36 RBIs. The Blue Jays have recalled 29-year old infielder Mike McCoy to replace Encarnacion on the roster. McCoy played in 29 games earlier this year for the Blue Jays and he was 10 of 50 (.200 avg, .519 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 2 RBIs and 4 stolen bases.

Kevin Gregg has been solid for the Toronto Blue Jays this year

32-year old righty Kevin Gregg might not always make the ninth inning look easy but he has been a solid closer overall this year for the Blue Jays. Gregg has pitched in 47 games (0 starts) for the Jays this year and he is 1-4 with 28 saves, a 3.28 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. His odd windup is likely a big reason for the fact that he has only given up 35 hits while whiffing 50 batters in 46 2/3 innings this year. He does get into some trouble once in a while with his control as he has walked 24 batters this year. That seems to be nitpicking a bit though as he usually gets the job done.

Dewayne Wise is off to a solid start for the Toronto Blue Jays

32-year old lefty swinging outfielder Dewayne Wise is off to a good start with the bat for the Blue Jays. He has played in 32 games for the Blue Jays this year and he is 16 of 60 (.267 avg, .795 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 3 homers, 11 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Wise has always had the reputation of being a all-field, no-hit type of outfielder but he’s been much more than that for the Jays so far. The Blue Jays hope he keeps up the good work off the bench the rest of the way this year.

The Toronto Blue Jays place David Purcey on the D.L.

The Blue Jays have placed 28-year old lefty reliever David Purcey on the 15-day disabled list with strained ligaments in his right foot. Purcey has pitched in 24 games (0 starts) for the Jays this year and he is 0-1 with 1 save, a 2.81 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. The Jays have recalled 29-year old lefty Jesse Carlson to replace Purcey in the pen. Carlson has pitched in 45 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball this year and he is 3-1 with 4 saves, a 4.24 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. He has pitched in 142 games (0 starts) in his two years with the Jays and he is 8-8 with 2 saves, a 3.52 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. Carlson should do a good job for the Jays.
