The Blue Jays have designated 33-year old lefty reliever Brian Tallet for assignment. He got into his first game for the Blue Jays last night and it was a catastrophe. He came into the game in the 10th inning with the Jays leading the game 5-4. He then proceeded to get one guy out while allowing 2 hits, walking 2 batters and giving up 2 earned runs to be the losing pitcher. He pitched in 215 games (31 starts) in his six years with the Blue Jays and he was 15-22 with a 4.75 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP.

27-year old lefty swinging 1B Adam Lind got off to a very fast start in 2011, but he has really struggled in July and August. In July and August, Lind is 39 for 199 (.196 avg) with 16 runs scored, 6 homers and 24 RBIs. He has now played in 105 games overall this year for the Blue Jays and he is 107 for 417 (.257 avg, .744 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 22 homers, 73 RBIs and 1 stolen base. The Blue Jays hope that Lind can shake his slump and finish the season strongly.

The Blue Jays have designated 30-year old lefty reliever Wil Ledezma for assignment. Ledezma pitched in 5 games (0 starts) for the Blue Jays this year and he was 0-0 with a 15.00 ERA and a 3.00 WHIP. Ledezma gave up 11 hits and he walked 7 batters in only 6 innings this year for the Blue Jays, so they aren’t going to miss him going forward. He has pitched in 192 games (40 starts) in parts of 9 years in the majors and he is 15-25 with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP. Ledezma has just never really mastered how to pitch.

The Blue Jays have placed 24-year old lefty swinging CF Colby Rasmus on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 24th, due to a right wrist injury. Rasmus has played in 23 games so far for the Blue Jays and he is 19 for 88 (.216 avg, .637 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 3 homers and 12 RBIs. Rasmus has whiffed 22 times while only walking 3 times so far for the Blue Jays as he looks like he’s pressing a little bit. The Blue Jays hope that he will be able to return for the last three weeks of the season.

The Blue Jays have claimed 33-year old lefty swinging outfielder DeWayne Wise off waivers from the Marlins. Wise played in 49 games for Marlins this year and he is 16 for 67 (.239 avg, .546 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 0 homers, 5 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. He has now played in 425 games in his first 9 years in the majors and he is 176 for 789 (.223 avg, .634 OPS) with 108 runs scored, 20 homers, 80 RBIs and 33 stolen bases. Wise has already played in 122 games in three years with the Blue Jays and he is 51 for 246 (.207 avg, .575 OPS) with 37 runs scored, 6 homers, 27 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. He will be a backup for the Blue Jays this time around.
