25-year old lefty swinging CF Colby Rasmus has had a very hard time so far for the Blue Jays. He has played in 32 games for the Jays since coming over from the Cardinals in a deal and he is 23 for 123 (.187 avg, .559 OPS) with 14 runs scored, 3 homers and 13 RBIs. He has now played in 126 games overall for the Cardinals & Blue Jays so far this year and he is 106 for 461 (.230 avg, .703 OPS) with 75 runs scored, 14 homers, 53 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. Rasmus has now played in 417 games in his first three years in the majors and he is 353 for 1,399 (.252 avg, .759 OPS) with 232 runs scored, 53 homers, 171 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. The Blue Jays hope that Rasmus will get his act together next spring as they have big plans for him going forward.

26-year old lefty starting pitcher has graduated to be the new ace of the starting rotation as he has turned in a fine 2011 season for the Jays. Romero has started 31 games for the Blue Jays so far this year and he is 15-10 with a 2.98 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. He has only given up 170 hits in 217 1/3 innings this year while whiffing 173 batters. Romero has now pitched in 92 games (all starts) in his first three years with the Blue Jays and he is 42-28 with a 3.63 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. The best is yet to come from Ricky Romero.

The Toronto Blue Jays lose Brett Lawrie for the season

The Toronto Blue Jays have lost rookie 21-year old righty swinging 3B Brett Lawrie for the rest of the season due to a fractured right middle finger. Lawrie played in 43 games for the Blue Jays this year and he was 44 for 150 (.293 avg, .953 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 9 homers, 25 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. This is a bad break for Lawrie as he has really looked good for the Blue Jays this year. Edwin Encarnacion will replace Lawrie at 3B the rest of the year.

Kelly Johnson has not been playing too well for the Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays dealt Aaron Hill and John McDonald to the Diamondbacks for 29-year old lefty swinging 2B Kelly Johnson. But so far, Johnson has not played well for the Jays. Johnson has played in 24 games for the Blue Jays so far this year and he is 20 for 82 (.244 avg, .718 OPS) with 13 runs scored, 2 homers, 5 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Johnson has already whiffed 26 times for the Jays as he looks at times like he has a hole in his bat. Johnson has now played in 138 games for the Jays and D-Backs so far this year and he is 110 for 512 (.215 avg, .702 OPS) with 72 runs scored, 20 homers, 54 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. I don’t think the Jays are going to re-sign Johnson.

30-year old righty swinging RF Jose Bautista proved in 2011 that his 2010 season was not a fluke. Bautista has played in 136 games for the Blue Jays so far this year and he is 144 of 473 (.304 avg, 1.072 OPS) with 101 runs scored, 42 homers, 100 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. Bautista has walked 117 times this year too as pitchers are being very, very careful with him. Bautista has now played in 431 games in his first four years with the Blue Jays and he is 383 for 1,434 (.267 avg, .953 OPS) with 271 runs scored, 112 homers, 274 RBIs and 21 stolen bases.
