The Toronto Blue Jays lose Brett Lawrie for the season

The Toronto Blue Jays have lost rookie 21-year old righty swinging 3B Brett Lawrie for the rest of the season due to a fractured right middle finger. Lawrie played in 43 games for the Blue Jays this year and he was 44 for 150 (.293 avg, .953 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 9 homers, 25 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. This is a bad break for Lawrie as he has really looked good for the Blue Jays this year. Edwin Encarnacion will replace Lawrie at 3B the rest of the year.

Yunel Escobar has been really solid in his first full year with the Toronto Blue Jays

28-year old shortstop Yunel Escobar has been really solid for the Blue Jays this year. He has played in 133 games for the Blue Jays so far this year and he is 149 for 513 (.290 avg, .782 OPS) with 77 runs scored, 11 homers, 48 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Escobar has now played in 193 games in his first two years with the Blue Jays and he is 214 for 749 (.286 avg, .755 OPS) with 109 runs scored, 15 homers, 64 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. The Blue Jays got the better end of the Yunel Escobar - Alex Gonzalez deal with the Braves last July.

UPDATE: (9/21/2011) - The Toronto Blue Jays have placed Escobar on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to September 11th due to a left elbow injury.

The Toronto Blue Jays place Jon Rauch on the D.L.

The Blue Jays have placed 32-year old righty reliever Jon Rauch on the 15-day disabled list due to torn cartilage in his right knee. Rauch pitched in 53 games (0 starts) for the Blue Jays this year and he was 5-4 with 11 saves, a 4.85 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. He has now pitched in 468 games (11 starts) in his first 9 years in the majors and he is 39-31 with 58 saves, a 3.82 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. The Blue Jays will use Frank Francisco as the closer the rest of the year.

The Toronto Blue Jays shut down Rajai Davis for the season

The Blue Jays have shut down 30-year old righty swinging CF Rajai Davis for the rest of the season due to a setback in his rehab from a hamstring injury. Davis played in 95 games for the Jays this year and he was 76 for 320 (.238 avg, .623 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 1 homer, 29 RBIs and 34 stolen bases. He was a disappointment this year for the Blue Jays. He has now played in 571 games in his first six years in the majors and he is 451 for 1,653 (.273 avg, .696 OPS) with 238 runs scored, 13 homers, 157 RBIs and 177 stolen bases. Don’t be surprised to see him get dealt over the winter.

The Toronto Blue Jays place Colby Rasmus on the D.L.

The Blue Jays have placed 24-year old lefty swinging CF Colby Rasmus on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 24th, due to a right wrist injury. Rasmus has played in 23 games so far for the Blue Jays and he is 19 for 88 (.216 avg, .637 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 3 homers and 12 RBIs. Rasmus has whiffed 22 times while only walking 3 times so far for the Blue Jays as he looks like he’s pressing a little bit. The Blue Jays hope that he will be able to return for the last three weeks of the season.
